We used to live opposite an abbatoir, I used to watch them unloading the animals every wednesday. Prob why I'm vegetarian then as i was only abou 7 so quite impressionable.

Anyway I digress..... Do you have to thin out? Surely even the spindly weak ones will do ok? Look at the advert for Mr Muscle products, not a fine specimen of a man but seems to have done ok for himself.....!

It seems mean to throw them away just because they look spindly, esp if they have gone to all the effort of sprouting and what if they all look spindly? How do you decide which to keep? It's like russion roulette for the plants!

I'm glad other people feel bad about discarding the weaker seedlings too, I hate doing it after they've gone to all the trouble to germinate.

I also hate pulling up self-sown plants, especially when it's something lovely. The worst offenders in my garden are yellow pear tomatoes and red orach. I grew them from seed years ago and now they turn up in the garden every year without fail - you've got to admire their cheeky charm!

I am the same too. I end up with loads of plants.... thing is most of 'the weaker' ones seem to catch up and produce a good crop!

I worked out last night that I have 16 varieties of tomato at various stages of growth... Even if I only had one plant of each I'd struggle to find room for them. But, due to my inability to murder a healthy looking seedling I have at least 4 of each variety WHERE am I going to put 64 tomato plants??!! (And I haven't even mentioned the peppers & chillis...)
                  Tomato plant anyone?!
